Hello all!
Welcome back to the blog space. I hope you all are staying safe & healthy. Right now life can be so wild, and scary, I hope you all are finding a way to stay sane during this time :) Today I have a post that is very dear to my heart lately and that is, sustainability. I have to say before we go into this that I am 100% not perfect, and so much of this is all new to me as well. So be easy on yourself as you are reading this, and know I am learning right along with you! Here are some tips to help you get started like me: Tip One: Coffee: Rainforest Alliance or Certified Organic -When you are looking into buying your next bag of coffee look for these two certifications. As of recently I have discovered that coffee is horribly unsustainable and it is actually super scary. The production of coffee is leading to deforestation, changing the rainforest ecosystem which is negativity effecting the plants and animals. Truly breaks my heart, and not to mention many production plants are treating their own farmers very unethically. Not only is this an environmental issue but also a human rights issue. Below I will link some other items you can read on each of these topics. Tip Two: Chocolate: Buy Dark Chocolate -Yep chocolate is about the same as coffee. Pretty much under the exact same issues chocolate has had a huge reputation for treating the farmers unfairly. The average cocoa farmer is getting paid well under the poverty line. -However if you purchase more dark chocolate this means more cocoa, which means more money to the cocoa farmers. Also look for a fair trade on the label, which this standard means banning child labor work, and forced labor. Tip Three: Local: Buy Local -Of course this one is a no brainer. When buying local you are giving money directly to your own community. Buying local as much as you can is huge, especially in the produce world. Try and find a farmers market near you or a co-op :) Those are a few of my tips and what I have learned so far. Again still 100% learning, but just a small change can make a huge difference. Linked below is more info, stated much better then I did above haha! Let me know any info you have I would love to learn more. XOXO, Chandel Patricia :) Coffee Chocolate
